Johnson Ranch Announcements
Major Pickleball Expansion
We are excited to announce plans for a major expansion of our pickleball facilities and programming in the Sacramento region. The centerpiece of this pickleball expansion will be the construction of a 24-court pickleball center at Johnson Ranch Sports Club in Roseville. Johnson Ranch will be converting seven tennis courts to 24 lighted pickleball courts.
Mark Tappan, Spare Time’s Corporate Director of Operations noted, “The Johnson Ranch Pickleball Center will be above and beyond any other pickleball facility in the region. It will provide extensive opportunities for recreational and competitive pickleball and will create a fantastic setting and environment for this fast-growing, social sport. The size and scope of this facility will enable the club to host major regional and national tournaments in addition to expanding its local programs. We also plan to develop a youth pickleball program to go along with our adult program.”
In addition to the courts at Johnson Ranch, we plan to expand our pickleball program to 6 – 10 courts at a number of our other Sacramento area clubs, including Rio del Oro Sports Club in Sacramento, Gold River Sports Club, Laguna Creek Sports Club in Elk Grove and Broadstone Sports Club in Folsom. We also have 5 pickleball courts at Diamond Hills Sports Club in Oakley. As part of our pickleball expansion, we plan to develop Spare Time interclub pickleball leagues to promote level-specific competitive play.
Construction of the pickleball facilities will start during the first quarter of 2022 with the courts expected to open for play in April or May depending on the weather.
